The decision I made in my last post has been sooo freeing! I can make things for myself without feeling guilty. What have I been doing with the time now? Making hotpads of course! I have a little corner in my dining room that needed some color and I thought colorful hotpads would brighten the space up a little bit. I actually have one more that is just pink and black rounds but I didn't get a picture of it before it got dark. I think adding a few vintage hotpads or potholders to the collection would be so fun!
I was thinking as I was making these though. I wonder what will happen to everything I make one day? Will my children treasure these things or will they be auctioned off in a smokey building for a quarter in a box of odds & ends? Have you ever wondered this? Or am I just weird? I'm ok with being a little weird :)

I totally think of those kind of things. My mom and I had a deep discussion about this while looking through a drawer of "found" photos at an antique mall.
Too cute!! I made a quilt for my niece when she was a baby and now she is 6. Everytime I go over to their house I always look to see if it has been in use!! LOL And you know what? I haven't even made one for myself yet!! Your post has got me thinking...
Okay...you seriously inspire me to branch out and try new things in crocheting! My hubby was getting onto me yesterday as I was looking at different patterns to try. I kept saying "there is no way I can do that" and he kept saying "yes you can!!"
I am definitely going to try a hand at these. I love your idea of using them to brighten up the kitchen.
omg i love them!! so much! i def wouldn't be giving them to any dusty old thrift shop! wil you be adding those to your shop? :)
Amber - These simple hotpads have already taught me a few new things. Like the front post double crochet. I love how that stitch looks! You should find a pattern that looks a little challenging but not too out of your comfort zone so you don't get frustrated and give up. Challenge yourself a step at a time. I get all excited when I learn something new... even tiny things like the fpdc! :)
those are freaking adorable!! good for you for taking time for yourself. and your children will totally treasure them :]
lovess. XO.
So...soo cute. I love the idea of using them as decoration. Great colors! I especially love the green and yellow one.
I love those and I love the idea of them as decoration. Pretty colors. :)
Those are so cute! And retro! I think I need a few myself :)
I love your hotpads!!! I need to learn to crochet. After I read this post I found myself looking at my kitchen thinking those would look great above my cabinets!!! So cute Carol!!!
i love these hotpads so much i think i need to make some for myself. they're really pretty! i'm glad i found your blog.
i do hope that someone who really appreciates handmade things will one day find my crochted projects, whether that person is a family member or some stranger.
You know... i actually wonder the EXACT same thing!! AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE KIDS!!
I hope the buggers will treasure it though coz i have so many things I have put in my memory box and so forth!!
Loving the hotpads!! I think they'd look great on just a plain white wall actually!
